When he was very little, Tomás (Thomas) would sleep with his window wide open and look up at the starry sky and wait for his eyes to get tired. He liked to think that some day he could make his way up there and collect into a small flask some of that twinkly light and give it to his grandmother,  an astronomer by profession, who would always tell him stories about the stars. She knew everything there was to know about them, but there was always one thing in particular that intrigued him: Why did the stars seem to go out, all of a sudden?
